When building our van, our goal was to always keep the weight to a minimum but not sacrifice durability. We’ve been using our van for almost a year now and found out our countertop and tabletop weren’t going to work out as we hoped. For both applications, we used an Ikea tabletop. It was the look we were going for, it was very lightweight, and it was cheap! Nine dollars to be exact.

Like most people with a van know, storage space is limited. Making use of wasted space is almost a necessity if you plan on traveling or living in your van. Platform beds are one of the most common setups in vans because they make good use of a small space. They allow for a garage to securely store bikes and gear while sleeping. This is one of the most exciting steps in the van build process. For months I have been looking at these ugly, misshapen walls and insulation with little payoff from my hard work.
